Thank you Larry for a fun blurb. Just one thought, Delmar/Adamsville is not really what one thinks of as a “railroad town”. While the railroad was important to the development of the hamlet, the hamlet was not established because of the railroad. Which is how I think of “railroad towns.” Adamsville/Delmar was a community by the 1830s, 20 or more years before the railroad came thru in the 1860s.
Susan makes a great point. An archaeologist from Slingerlands who I was talking to about this story also pointed out that the Delaware Turnpike originally was the reason Adamsville/Delmar came into existence decades before the railroad.
