Second photo is of Hear Here booth in the motor room aboard SLATER. Since the engineering spaces would be loud aboard these ships they installed these Hear Here booths-the material around the booth would muffle the sound enough that you would be able to hear thorough the sound powered phones (pictured) to receive orders from the captain.
